Terms and Conditions

Louise Benson School of Dance Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions are designed to help Louise Benson School of Dance operate safely, fairly and consistently. By enrolling in our classes, workshops or other activities, you agree to the following terms.

REGISTRATION AND DATA PROTECTION

All students must be registered before attending a class or workshop.

Personal information will be collected, stored and used in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Where applicable, student information may be shared with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), Acrobatic Arts, London College of Music Examinations (LCME) and local authorities where Body of Persons Approval (BOPA) licences or other permissions are required.

FEES AND PAYMENTS

Weekly class fees are calculated over the academic year and paid by monthly Direct Debit through GoCardless.

Workshop fees are payable in full when booking.

Places cannot be guaranteed until payment has been received. Students may not be able to participate if fees remain unpaid, unless a prior payment arrangement has been agreed with Louise Benson School of Dance.

DISCONTINUING WEEKLY CLASSES

A full term’s notice is required if you wish to discontinue a weekly class.

If the required notice is not given, fees for the following term will remain payable.

We will assume that students are continuing each term unless we are informed otherwise.

ATTENDANCE, REFUNDS AND MISSED CLASSES

Regular attendance is important so students can gain the most from their training.

Refunds, credits or paused Direct Debits cannot normally be offered for classes or workshops missed because of holidays, illness or other personal circumstances.

Students who miss a significant number of classes may be unable to participate fully in performances, examinations or particular pieces of choreography.

HEALTH, ILLNESS AND MEDICAL INFORMATION

Parents and guardians must inform Louise Benson School of Dance of any medical conditions, allergies, injuries or additional needs that may affect participation.

Students should not attend classes or workshops if they have a fever, sickness, diarrhoea or a contagious illness.

We always aim to have someone with first-aid knowledge available during our activities. In the event of a serious accident or illness, you authorise Louise Benson School of Dance to seek emergency medical assistance if you cannot be contacted.

PHYSICAL CONTACT

Dance teaching sometimes requires appropriate physical contact to help correct posture, demonstrate movements, support a student or ensure their safety.

Classes may also involve appropriate physical contact between students, including holding hands, partner work and supported movements.

ACRO CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS

Acro classes involve skills such as balancing, flexibility, strength work, tumbling and partner activities and therefore carry a higher level of physical risk than some other dance classes.

Louise Benson School of Dance follows the internationally recognised Acrobatic Arts syllabus and teaching progressions. Skills are taught progressively, and students will only be encouraged to attempt movements that are appropriate for their age, ability and level of development.

Whilst every reasonable precaution is taken to provide a safe learning environment, participation in Acro classes and workshops carries an inherent risk of injury, as with any physical activity.

Parents and guardians must inform Louise Benson School of Dance of any injuries, medical conditions or physical limitations that may affect their child’s safe participation.

UNIFORM AND APPEARANCE

Students are expected to attend weekly classes wearing the correct uniform, footwear and hairstyle.

Full uniform details are available through our website and class information.

Students attending workshops should wear suitable dancewear or comfortable clothing that allows them to move safely.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO

Photographs and videos may be taken during classes, workshops, performances and events for teaching, promotional, website and social media purposes.

Permission for Louise Benson School of Dance to use photographs and videos will be managed through the consent choices provided during registration.

Parents and students must not photograph or film during classes without permission from the teacher.

Images or videos containing children other than your own must not be posted online or shared publicly without permission.

SUPERVISION AND COLLECTION

Louise Benson School of Dance aims to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all students.

Children attending preschool classes who are under three years old must have a parent or guardian remain on the premises throughout the class.

Primary-aged children will be handed back to their parent, guardian or authorised adult at the end of each class or workshop.

If the adult collecting them is not present, the child will remain with the teacher until they are collected.

Please inform us if somebody different will be collecting your child.

Students of secondary school age will not normally be handed directly back to a parent and may leave the premises independently after their class. Parents and guardians are responsible for ensuring that their child understands their collection or travel arrangements.

Louise Benson School of Dance is responsible for students only during their scheduled class or workshop time. We cannot accept responsibility for students before their class begins or after they have been collected or have left the premises.

Parents and guardians are expected to collect children promptly at the stated finishing time.

BEHAVIOUR

We expect students, parents, guardians and visitors to treat teachers, volunteers and other students with kindness and respect.

Louise Benson School of Dance reserves the right to refuse or withdraw classes or activities where behaviour is abusive, threatening, repeatedly disruptive or in serious breach of these Terms and Conditions.

CANCELLATION OF CLASSES OR WORKSHOPS

Louise Benson School of Dance will make every reasonable effort to run scheduled classes and workshops.

If we need to cancel an activity, we will aim to offer a replacement, credit or refund where appropriate.

We cannot guarantee that replacement sessions will always be possible where a cancellation is caused by circumstances outside our control.

EXAMINATIONS

Students will only be entered for examinations when the teaching team believes they have reached the required standard.

Examination entry is based on readiness, attendance and commitment.

Students entering certain ISTD/Acro examinations may be required to attend an additional weekly class during the period leading up to the examination.

Louise Benson School of Dance reserves the right to withdraw a student from an examination if it is considered to be in their best interests.

Examination fees must be paid by the stated deadline.

WATCH WEEK

Parents and guardians may be invited to attend Watch Week, usually towards the end of term.

Louise Benson School of Dance reserves the right to change or cancel Watch Week when necessary.

Photography and filming during Watch Week are only permitted with the teacher’s permission.

EQUALITY AND INCLUSION

Louise Benson School of Dance is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, regardless of age, race, religion, gender, disability, background, experience or ability.

PERSONAL PROPERTY

Students bring personal belongings to classes, workshops and events at their own risk.

Louise Benson School of Dance cannot accept responsibility for the loss of or damage to personal property.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Louise Benson School of Dance carries out reasonable checks of its venues and equipment to help provide a clean and safe environment.

Students should use the toilet before class where possible and bring a clearly labelled bottle of water.

CHANGES TO THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Louise Benson School of Dance may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time.

Parents and guardians will be informed of any significant changes.

By enrolling in classes, workshops or other activities with Louise Benson School of Dance, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms and Conditions.
